Meet our dedicated group of Founding Committee Members!

  • Monica Hescheles

    Monica (she/her) grew up in the foothills of Boulder, CO and moved to the Pacific Northwest to finish a degree in Environmental Education at Western Washington University. After moving to Portland a few years ago, she volunteered doing farm education and worked in administration for Northwest Outward Bound School. She is currently participating in a Rogue Farm Corps program in Sisters, OR. Farming has been the perfect way to combine her passion and interest in food, cooking, environmental education and social justice. In her free time, she enjoys sharing home cooked food with friends, spending time hiking and exploring the outdoors and is a causal bird watcher.

  • Georgia O'Farrell

    Georgia (she/her) grew up in Encinitas and Idyllwild, CA. As a child she spent summers on her family’s farm in North Georgia, of which her grandfather was 5th generation. Her love of the land drew her to move upon graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and she spent the last 6 years in North Georgia and Atlanta. She has been a farmhand on an organic vegetable farm and her family’s vineyard, assisted with a local farm to school program, and gained 5 years of experience in volunteer management and nonprofit fundraising. Georgia recently moved to Hillsboro, Oregon from San Diego where she served as Development Director of the San Diego Hunger Coalition, which works to increase access to federal food assistance programs in San Diego County. She is excited to use her professional skill set and love for connecting with people through food and agriculture as part of the Thimbleberry Collaborative Farm committee!

  • Katie Snider

    Katie (she/her) grew up in Vermont and lived in a number of states before moving to Oregon in 2015. She has always enjoyed the outdoors, especially the beach. She grew up eating garden fresh produce grown by her parents, but only started learning how to garden in 2020. Katie has always had a strong drive for volunteering, especially with organizations promoting equal opportunity, education, and mentorship for children including Everybody Wins! Vermont and Big Brothers, Big Sisters. Katie earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs in 2014, and an M.A. in Social Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2018, where she is currently working on her Ph.D. in the same field. Her professional experience is diverse, and includes management, sales, research, and program evaluation. Katie is passionate about promoting equity and responsible community stewardship, and hopes to strengthen these values in the Gresham community through this organization.

  • Kendall Dunlop-Korsness

    Kendall (she/her) was born and raised in the Portland Metro area, and has a background in environmental health, community engagement, and reproductive health research. Kendall began working on a non-profit education garden in her sophomore year at Oregon State University, and has been passionate about regenerative farming, food justice, and food sovereignty ever since. In her free time she likes to get outside, thrift, cook, read and spend time with her husband and their cat and dog, Fig and Winnie. She is excited to be a part of this committee and to work alongside folks who are building equitable food systems in the Portland Metro area!

  • Sasha Ruddy

    Sasha (she/her) grew up in Northern Michigan loving to cook and eat straight from the garden. She landed in Portland in 2016 and has been sharing her home-grown vegetables since then. With a background in public health and education, she is passionate about food justice, building community, and creating youth-centered programming using a health equity lens. She's excited to be a part of this community and hopes to see you at the farm!

  • Hailey Swalley

    Hailey (she/her) grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to Portland in 2015. She has a passion for gardening, plant biology, equitable and sustainable food systems, and increasing community access to healthy and seasonal food options. Her background is in public relations, strategic communications and marketing. In her free time, you can typically find her cooking and sharing fresh food from her garden, testing new recipes, out hiking or foraging, or cycling around Portland and Vancouver. She's excited to serve and support alongside Thimbleberry Collaborative Farm team members!

  • Kelsie Young

    Kelsie (she/her) has been an Oregonian since the small age of five. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, she has come to love spending time outdoors whether it be hiking, paddling or surfing the earth. She has a background in performing and teaching aerial dance and has recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in general science from Portland State University. During her studies there, she developed a passion to protect the health and advocate for underrepresented communities and the environment. In discovering this new passion, Kelsie plans to pursue a master’s in public health with a focus on environmental systems and human health at OHSU for the next two years. She is excited to be working with Thimbleberry Collaborative Farm committee members and help the organization continue to grow!

  • Susanna Sieke

    Susanna (she/her) grew up in Southern California, where she was lucky enough to experience a variety of climates and environments from a young age. On childhood hikes with her father, Susanna found herself staring at the ground, curious about the plants and world beneath the soil. While studying biology and environmental studies at UC Santa Cruz, she interned at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food System (CASFS) where she developed a passion for growing happy and healthy produce. She is a graduate of the Rogue Farm Corp Apprenticeship program, where she lived and worked on an organic seed crop farm in Southern Oregon. Susanna continues to work in Oregon’s seed industry while volunteering with Thimbleberry and teaching yoga. Going forward, Susanna strives to be a farm to table illuminator by showcasing regenerative small farmers and educating consumers on food sustainable systems.
