Community Canning Workshop: Foundations of Pickling

Join the Willamette Farm & Food Coalition for an afternoon of preserving the harvest, sharing a delicious meal, and building community around local food.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn the foundations of safe water bath canning while creating a batch of delicious homemade pickles using seasonal produce. We'll cover the essentials of home food preservation, including canning safety, preparing jars, selecting ingredients, and the science behind creating shelf-stable pickles. Whether you're brand new to canning or looking to refresh your skills, this workshop will give you the confidence to continue preserving the harvest at home.

Every participant will leave with:

  • A jar of pickles they canned themselves

  • Foundational knowledge of safe home canning

  • Recipes and resources to continue canning at home

  • New connections with fellow food lovers and growers

Midway through the workshop, we'll gather for a seasonal Soil to Skillet lunch prepared by the Willamette Farm & Food Coalition's chefs using the freshest ingredients available from Thimbleberry Farm. Vegan and gluten-free options will be available.

Come ready to learn, share a meal, and celebrate the abundance of the season together.
